Local scientists have found a bird species in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak that hadn't been seen in 18 years, online newspaper VnExpress reported.
A team of scientists at the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center discovered the grey-crowned Crocias (Crocias langbianis) during their trip to Chu Yang Sin National Park in Dak Lak late last month.
The birds were found in areas 800-1,000 meters above sea level, said Pham Hong Phuong, one of the researchers.
The grey-crowned Crocias is endemic to the Da Lat plateau, which includes parts of Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces.
Previously known from only five specimens collected at two localities in 1938-1939, it was rediscovered 1994. Since then, it hadn't been seen until last month.
