The undergraduate student team FR1 from northern Vietnam came out the winner at a national robot contest on Sunday, becoming Vietnam's representative at an annual robot contest in Indonesia this August.
FR1, which comes from Hung Yen University of Technology and Education, beat team Fire Win, hailing from the same university, 5-3 in the final in Can Tho Town.
The Vietnamese team will compete against teams from countries like China and Japan at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Robot Contest, or ABU Robocon, on August 25-27.
Vietnam, represented by a student team from Lac Hong University from Dong Nai Province, won the ABU Robocon last year in India after defeating Japan.
A team from Lac Hong University was among about 90 teams that competed in the national contest this year, but exit the semi-final at the hands of Fire Win.
Every year Robocon has a different theme which is carried from national to international rounds.
This year, for the first time in its history, the competition is themed on sports, as competitors have to present a couple of robots to pitch against each other in badminton games. Winners are those who score five point first.
