Japanese professor to lecture on robots, demonstration included

A lecture and demonstration of cutting edge Japanese android technology will be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City August 13 and 15 respectively.

Japanese Professor Dr. Hiroshi Ishiguro (School of Engineering Science, Osaka University) and Mr. Nobuo Yamato (President & CEO of Vstone Co., Ltd.) will host the event, organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam and FPT University, in cooperation with the HCMC University of Technology

Prof. Ishiguro will first deliver a lecture on his research on androids and humans, with moving images and slides from his most recent projects.

The lecture will be followed by a demonstration of Vstone robots by Mr. Yamato, according to a press release from organizers.

Regarded as one of the world's top 100 living geniuses, Prof. Ishiguro has been devoting himself to the research and development of lifelike androids called "Geminoids" in order to explore what it means to be human.

Mr. Yamato, meanwhile, runs a robot production venture company Vstone Co., Ltd that utilizes Prof. Ishiguro's technology.

Yamato is also a manager of Team Osaka -- "an industry-academia-government collaboration team in Osaka," according to promotional material -- which has won its 5th consecutive victory at the world championship of the internationally recognized autonomous robot soccer project "Robocup."
