A giraffe in a southern Vietnam zoo on Thursday delivered a handsome, healthy newborn, who is 1.9 meters tall and weighs 60 kilos.
Managers of Dai Nam Zoo in Binh Duong province said both the mother and the male calf are in stable condition, adding that the baby rapidly got acquainted with his new environment just hours after birth.
The newborn, who was up on his feet soon after the delivery, is the third giraffe born in the zoo.
Last year, two calves were born here.
The young giraffes are sharing space with four adult ones, all imported from Africa in 2008, in a semi-wild environment in the 12.5-hectare zoo.
Their food includes grass and other wild plants such as acacia leaves.
