A resident spotted an injured dolphin drifting near a beach in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Thursday, Tuoi Tre reported.
At around 5am Duong Quang Hai was swimming near the beach in Phu Loc District’s Binh An Village when he spotted a black object floating around 30 meters from the shore. When he swam toward the animal, he saw recognized it as a dolphin.
The animal appeared tired, Hai recalled.
He called some nearby residents to bring the whale ashore to treat a 5-cm-long wound on its dorsal fin.
The whale weighs around 60 kilograms and is 1.8 meters in length.
According to local residents, around 10 dolphins live near Binh An beach, but this was the first time an injured whale was spotted.
