Two photos that highlight the importance of protecting clean water resources have been named the grand prize winners of a photo contest organized by the World Bank in Vietnam and VNPhoto, an online photography forum.
Aiming to raise awareness among rural and urban communities for using clean water, conserving water resources and improving environmental sanitation, the Water and Sanitation Photo Contest 2015 attracted 256 submissions, the World Bank said Wednesday.
Sixteen entries have been selected to receive awards in two categories: water and sanitation, it said.
Huy Quoc Nguyen's “Water and Life," which depicts a woman scooping water out of a small well, is the winner of the first category.
The winner of the sanitation category, “For Clean Water Resources,” captures a great moment of two janitors fishing garbage out of a river.
Hoang Minh Tran, who shot the photo, said he has seen tourists throwing garbage into the Hoai River in Hoi An Town without knowing that the following morning janitors would have to work really hard to clean up the beautiful river.
“Through my photo, I would like to contribute to raising awareness of the importance of protecting our environment. This is everyone’s mission,” he said.
