A delegation of the Australian Political Exchange Council (APEC) paid a visit to Thanh Nien Newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City on April 11.
Led by Cory Bernardi, a Liberal Party member of the Australian Senate, the delegation was briefed of the Thanh Nien newsroom as well as social programs organized by the newspaper, such as the Duyen Dang Viet Nam (Charming Vietnam) musical gala which raises funds for disadvantaged and well-performing students, the Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship and the under-21 football tournament.
Nguyen Quang Thong, the editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien, also briefed the delegation on development strategies of the newspaper. While working hard to maintain the print circulation, Thanh Nien has also invested heavily in developing online editions in Vietnamese and English as well as applications for mobile version.
He said Thanh Nien Mobile won a gold prize medal at the Asian Digital Media Awards as the first-ever Vietnamese newspaper to be honored at the event on November 13 last year.
The newspaper's mobile platform,, was awarded the gold prize medal for the Mobile Publish category at the 4th annual event held by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
At the meeting, representatives of the APEC talked about the current situation of the media in Australia and the role it play in the country's development.
