A Thanh Nien-initiated charity program visited the central province of Quang Nam to provide free-of-charge eye surgeries for poor people over the weekend.

More than 500 people visited Thai Binh Duong General Hospital in Quang Nam's Tam Ky Town for free eye examinations as part of the "Light for Life" program.

The event, sponsored by the representative office of JTI - Japan Tobacco International in Ho Chi Minh City, brought a group of doctors from the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients to provide eye examinations and treatment for poor people.

As many as 105 patients were selected to undergo surgeries.

Last year, Thanh Nien and other sponsors held four events to perform free-of-charge eye surgeries for hundreds of poor patients in Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Quang Nam provinces under the Light for Life program.

Over the last decade, the program has reached around 10,000 patients with the estimated funding of VND6.5 billion (US$308,349).
