Yamaha Motor Vietnam has begun to recall some 83,000 electronic fuel injection scooters to fix a problem with the pipe rack that could cause a gasoline leak.

The Japanese manufacturer said on its website that it is recalling Nozza scooters sold between August 29, 2011, and March 30 this year.

The faulty pipe rack could weaken the joints between gasoline pipes and nozzles, causing a fuel leak, it explained.

However, there are no reports of this actually happening to customers.

Yamaha will check all the recalled vehicles and replace three parts: the rack, fuel pipes, and bolts.

The repaired scooters would have a "Y" added beside their identification numbers.

The 115cc Nozza is manufactured locally and is targeted at the Vietnamese market.
