Work started Sunday on a Japan-funded new passenger terminal at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
The four-story passenger terminal T2 will cover an area of 139,216 square meters. It is expected to be finished in November 2014. Once complete, the terminal will be able to receive up to 10 million passengers per year.
Construction costs are estimated at 75.56 billion yen (US$968 million), of which the Japan International Cooperation Agency has pledged a loan of 12.6 billion yen (US$161 million).
The project's contractor is Japan-Vietnam joint venture Tasei Vinaconex.
Air traffic in the Noi Bai International Airport the only air gateway to the capital exceeded the capacity in Terminal 1 in 2007, according to airport authorities. The Ministry of Transport are hailing Terminal 2 as a priority project for the country.
