A plant to produce medium-density fiberboard (MDF) broke ground Tuesday in the southern province of Binh Phuoc.

Estimated to cost more than $120 million, the plant, invested in by VRG Dongwha a joint-venture between Vietnam Rubber Group and the Korean-owned Dongwha Group, will have a designed capacity of 1,000 cubic meters of wood a day, or 300,000 cubic meters per year.

It was scheduled to begin operations in the third quarter of 2012, according to VRG Dongwha chairman Le Minh Chau.
