Local telecom company Viettel on Thursday launched high speed 3G mobile phone services in Vietnam's cities and provinces.
According to the military-run firm, it now has 8,000 3G stations, much higher than the original target of 5,000 stations. The facilities allow Viettel to provide its service nationwide, it said.
Tong Viet Trung, deputy director of Viettel, said in order to make 3G technology more popular, the company will set prices as low as VND10,000 per month for 3G Mobile Internet service.
More than 1 million customers have subscribed for its 3g services, Viettel said.
3G, or third-generation mobile networks, allows carriers to offer users a wide range of high-speed services including internet and video calling.
Two other large wireless carriers, Vinaphone and MobiFone, launched their 3G networks late last year.
