The Dung Quat Shipbuilding Company handed over the country's largest ever crude oil tanker to PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation on Sunday in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The 104,000 DWT-PVT MERCURY was built locally and took nearly five years to construct.

It is 245 meters long, 20 meters high and 43 meters wide.

The shipbuilding company, which was transferred to the state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) in 2010 from the debt-ridden Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), is currently building a 105,000-DWT tanker.

It is also repairing a 154,000 DWT-plus tanker of Vietsovepetro, a joint venture between Russian state-run Zarubezhneft and Petrovietnam.
