Vietnam's tra fish farming area has expanded five times over the past ten years, with total output reaching 1.35 million tons, an industry group said Saturday.
The increased output has allowed the country to export the fish to 136 markets around the world, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors said. Annual tra fish exports are now recorded at US$1.4 billion, compared to $40 million ten years ago.
According to the association, Vietnam has secured its position as the largest supplier of white-flesh fish fillets in the world with a market share of around 95 percent.
However, the group noted that exporters are still trying to undercut each other, threatening futher growth of the industry. It also said farmers have not earned enough profits and many of them decided to quit farming.
