Vietnam, which has invested some US$4.9 billion in 429 projects, is the biggest foreign investor in Laos, Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.
Thailand is second with $4 billion, it quoted a Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment report on foreign investment between 1989 and 2012 as saying.
In 1989 Laos unveiled a policy of encouraging foreign investment.
China has $3.9 billion, and the list of top investors also includes France, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea.
Mining and electricity generation have attracted the largest investments.
They are followed by agriculture, services, hospitality telecom, construction, manufacturing, and banking.
