Vietnam plans to ban people from leaving the country if they personally owe VND50 million (US$2,300) in taxes or land-use fees or if a business they represent owes VND1 billion ($45,850).
The ban will take effect, for both Vietnamese and foreigners, if the debt is owed for more than 90 days, according to a bill the Finance Ministry has drafted.
If a company owes the money, its chairperson, director or general director will not be allowed to leave the country until the debt is cleared.
