Vietnam will host ASEAN's largest petroleum conference for the first time in November next year, the general director of state-owned oil and gas group PetroVietnam said at a press briefing in Hanoi Wednesday.
Do Van Hau said his company would chair the tenth ASCOPE ASEAN Council on Petroleum to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from November 28 to 30, news website VnExpress reported.
He said "The conference will discuss vital topics for the oil and gas industry. Besides the 10 member countries, there will also be many international companies."
Nearly 500 international delegates will be present and companies will have 300 booths exhibiting modern equipment for surveying, exploration, processing, transport, and other tasks.
There would be business negotiations and the countries would discuss only cooperation in undisputed waters, Hau said, adding the conference would not be a forum for talks on the East Sea dispute.
The quadrennial ASCOPE was hosted by Thailand in 2009.
