The Ministry of Transport has established a team of inspectors to review complaints of foreign shipping lines imposing unreasonable surcharges on Vietnamese exports and imports.
The 20-member team led by Bui Tien Thu, deputy head of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, will work directly with the foreign shipping firms and Vietnamese import-export companies to determine whether their practices comply with Vietnamese laws and international norms.
They will order foreign shipping firms to cease any and all fees they deem unreasonable.
The team will advise the Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies to suggest regulations to manage and supervise transport fees and surcharges levied on export and import products.
