Vietnam Airlines announced Wednesday it will next month become the first carrier in Southeast Asia to join SkyTeam, the world's second largest airline alliance.
The move would link Vietnam Airlines to SkyTeam's global network of more than 850 routes and help the national carrier boost ties with international airlines, it said.
Vietnam Airlines, which operates 35 domestic routes and more than 20 international routes, will officially join the alliance on June 10. To celebrate the event it will offer a 10 percent discount on tickets bought via its website (www.vietnamairlines.com) on June 9-10.
SkyTeam, founded in 2000, is the second largest airline alliance in the world after Star Alliance. Its members include Air France-KLM, Alitalia, China Southern, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air.
