National carrier Vietnam Airlines has received the first delivery of 3,000 cubic metres of jet fuel from the Dung Quat oil refinery.
The delivery on Sunday came two weeks after the airline announced a deal to buy jet fuel produced by Dung Quat, the only oil refinery in the country, after accepting the quality of its Jet A1 product. The deal was inked following nearly two years of paperwork and negotiations.
Vietnam Airlines is expected to buy another 100,000 tons of jet fuel from the refinery until the end of the year.
Dung Quat produces around 400,000 tons of jet fuel a year and it can supply between 35 and 40 percent of the national carrier's fuel demand. The refinery has sold more than 28.6 trillion tons of the fuel since August 2010.
Vietnam Airlines will be the second domestic carrier to use Dung Quat's Jet A1, after the Southern Sevice Flight Company, which operates oil exploration flights.
