US-based transportation and logistics firm BDP International has announced that it is teaming up with local partners to expand its business into Vietnam.

Without naming the partners, BDP said the joint venture is a logical next step that will enable it to reach out to potential Vietnamese customers and add them to its multinational clients.

Gary Henderson, BDP International's general director in Vietnam, said the firm has achieved promising results in sales through its representative office opened late 2008.

"As our customers extend their purchasing and manufacturing into Vietnam, there is a need for us to support them by delivering effective and efficient supply chain solutions, both into and out of Vietnam," said BDP International's managing director in Asia Pacific Mike Andaloro.

Speaking in a meeting Thursday to launch its affiliate in Vietnam, Andaloro said the firm saw the chemical sector in the country as an industry with enormous growth potential.

More Vietnamese businesses are currently importing chemical products from China and the US for their factories, he said.

The new joint venture will help BDS gain a 20 percent growth in sales in the local market, Henderson told Thanh Nien Weekly.
