Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province

Vietnam's northern coastal province of Quang Ninh has asked the US-based Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to help it develop its tourism industry through 2020, news website thoibaokinhtesaigon reported February 3.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, most provincial authorities agreed to choose BCG, based on the group's experience, ability and methodology.

BCG is a global management consultancy firm with 77 offices in 42 countries. It is one of the largest private companies in the United States, serving in an advisory role to many businesses, governments and other institutions.

The price of the contract signed by the province and the firm was not immediately available.

Quang Ninh Province, home to UNESCO World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay, welcomed around seven million travelers last year, up 8.5 percent over 2011.

Revenues collected from tourism of the province reached roughly VND4 trillion (US192 million) during last year, a 14.3 percent increase compared to 2011.
