More than 700 businesses have posted promotions on a government sponsored website that will close on December 5, the first Friday of the month.
The creators of www.onlinefriday.vn
said that as of Thursday, they had compiled more than 800 special offers on electronics, digital devices, clothing and gifts, Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon Online reported.
The Department of e-Commerce and Information Technology at the trade ministry jointly launched the site on November 10 with the Vietnam e-Commerce Association to stimulate local consumption and promote online shopping habits.
Le Duc Anh, one of the organizers, said they are scrambling to spread the news to consumers and draw more retailers before the deadline of November 30.
Anh said they will choose “quality” promotions.
Select businesses will enjoy logistical support on the peak day of December 5, he told the newspaper.
But many specials were posted last week.
Nguyen Thanh Hung, general secretary of Vietnam E-Commerce Association and deputy chief organizer, said two major telecom firms Viettel and MobiFone have sent text messages to around 50 million subscribers to inform them of the online Friday.
Hung said they expected to have ten million customers.
He said shoppers will only receive promotions and delivery support when they book on the websites of the retailers, who must operate within Vietnam’s territory.
They can pay online or cash upon delivery.
The items are guaranteed to arrive by December 23 at the latest.
Phone calls will not benefit from the program, Hung said.
He said the program is scheduled to return every year.
