Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC) on Tuesday received the license to become the ninth mobile phone service provider in the country.
The company will launch its service at the end of this year, targeting young customers with various 3G services, Chu Tien Dat, a senior official, was quoted by the Vietnam Economic Times as saying.
VTC will not develop its own infrastructure. The Hanoi-based company will instead lease facilities from other wireless carriers in the country.
The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications in August last year granted a license to Indochina Telecom, the eighth mobile phone service provider in Vietnam.
The seven other companies are: Vinaphone, MobiFone, Viettel, S-Fone, EVN Telecom, Vietnamobile and Beeline. Indochina is yet to offer its service in the market.
