Metro Cash & Carry is expanding its business in the Mekong Delta with a new wholesale supermarket in An Giang Province.

The German chain broke ground Wednesday (March 31) for its second center in the delta and 10th outlet in Vietnam, serving business customers with 25,000 items.

Randy Guttery, the giant wholesaler's managing director, said the region's potential was high when they opened the first center in Can Tho City in 2004. "With over 17 million agricultural producers, the region has become the biggest fresh food supplier of our system.

"Our core customers are emerging everywhere in the delta," he added, referring to hotels, restaurants and caterers.

Metro Cash & Carry operates nine centers in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho and Dong Nai and two distribution platforms in Binh Duong and Lam Dong provinces since 2002. Another wholesale supermarket is under construction in Binh Duong Province.
