Maersk Line, the world's largest shipping container line, will launch direct service between southern Vietnam and the west coast of the US on May 12, the carrier said on its website.

With a direct call that takes 18 days to reach Los Angeles, Maersk Line will be the first carrier to introduce the "Post-Panamax" class (9000 TEU vessels) to Vietnam.

The new service will call at the SP-PSA International Terminal in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, a deepwater facility located 80 kilometers south of Ho Chi Minh City.
