A Lufthansa plane at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City
German airlines Lufthansa has pulled the plug on its Vietnam services after 23 years of operation.
Its last flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City, the only destination it flies to, are scheduled for today, March 25, Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon (Saigon Times) newspaper quoted the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam as saying.
Lufthansa’s office at Tan Son Nhat International Airport would close on April 30, it said without revealing the reason for the airlines’ decision.
Experts speculated that the decision is to do with the carrier’s plans to rearrange its summer schedule with more flights from Frankfurt to other places in Southeast Asia.
Air France will remain the only European airline flying direct to Vietnam.
