Construction began Saturday on a VND600 billion (US$31.5 million) five-star resort project in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The Sea Star Suite project, jointly invested in by Ho Chi Minh City-based Housing Development Company and tourism company Saigon Tourist, will have 573 hotel rooms and residential apartments. It is scheduled for completion in 24 months.

The luxury project is part of a bigger plan to develop an ecotourism site along the beach, around 130 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City.

Furama, a Singapore-based hotel management company, will execute the project.

In related news, local firm Development Investment and Construction Joint Stock Corp. announced Saturday it will spend VND1.78 trillion ($93.7 million) on building a resort and a hotel-office building complex in the province.
