The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has awarded two senior Vietnamese officials in recognition of their contribution to the agency's work.

The two awardees are Vo Hong Phuc, former minister, and Ho Quang Minh, former director general of the Foreign Economic Relations Department at Ministry of Planning and Investment, JICA said in a statement on Tuesday.

Vietnam has been widely recognized among the most successful countries in attracting and effectively utilizing official development assistance (ODA) resources from the donor community, the agency said.

"This could not happen without the contribution of H.E. Vo Hong Phuc who had been in the position of Planning and Investment Minister for a decade," it said.

At a practitioner level, Dr. Ho Quang Minh had been deeply engaged in Japan's ODA since the very first days in Vietnam, JICA said.

"JICA does appreciate what HE. Mr. Phuc and Dr. Minh have done for JICA as well as Japan-Vietnam overall economic cooperation during the past 20 years," said Tsuno Motonori, JICA Vietnam Chief Representative. "We have been working closely with each other in an open and frank manner which has greatly helped improve Japan's ODA (work) in Vietnam."

The JICA Recognition Award is an annual event. This year the agency has awarded 21 persons and four organizations worldwide.
