The Ho Chi Minh City Computers Association (HCA) granted awards to 41 information and communications technology (ICT) companies on Wednesday for their contributions to the development of the industry.
The 41 awarded companies' total revenue in 2009 made up nearly 40% of the industry's total earning, according to HCA.
To qualify for this year's award, an ICT firm needed total revenues in 2009 reach of least VND20 billion, compared with last year's VND10 billion, depending on different award categories, including hardware, software, digital content, software for export, IT training, resellers and system integration service providers.
This year's event attracted the participation of 42 companies, equaling last year's figures. However the number of gold medals and cups presented at the event was higher. At last year's event, a total of 66 gold medals and cups were presented.
This year's top five Vietnamese computer brands were FPT Technology Products Co., Ltd; CMS Co., Ltd, ROBO Technology Corporation; Viettronics Tan Binh JSC; and Silicom Technology JSC. These firms earned total revenues of almost VND1.5 trillion (US$83 million), up 41% compared with last year. The top five ICT resellers earned a total of 3.142 trillion (US$174 million) in revenue, up 38% from last year.
The annual HCMC ICT Awards, organized for the first time in 1998, cover all companies in the ICT industry in Vietnam, including foreign firms selling their products in the country.
