The head of the International Hotels Group (IHG) in Vietnam has been named one of the top twenty outstanding businessmen in the country.
Thomas Schmelter, area general manager of the group in Vietnam, was given the honor at the Business Style Night on November 21. His name was among 50 nominations from Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Schmelter, who arrived in Vietnam just ten months ago, is in charge of all IHG properties in Vietnam including the InterContinental Asiana Saigon, which won Vietnam's Leading Hotel 2010 title from World Travel Awards.
Under his leadership, InterContinental Asiana Saigon in April was also listed by the world's premier travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller as one of the world's 134 hottest hotels.
"It is my honor and pleasure to receive this prestigious award," he said. "As the world's largest hotel operator, IHG is delighted to play a role in the evolution of our industry, and business overall, in Vietnam."
The award honors individuals who drive great business results and, at the same time, display supreme style and talent.
IHG has nearly 1,700 hotels which will create 140,000 jobs worldwide over the next few years.
