Five local companies have made it to the list of Vietnam's top ten favorite brands in 2010, a significant increase from only two last year, according to a recent survey by Nielsen Vietnam.
The survey conducted in November this year of more than 1,000 Vietnamese consumers age 5 to 45 with a minimum monthly income of VND3 million brought MobiFone, Vietcombank, Saigon Co.opMart, Viettel and Vinamilk into the top ten.
Last year, only two domestic brands, Vinamilk and Viettel, were featured on the list.
Honda topped this year's list. In a motorbike market of about 20 million customers, Honda is the first choice for Vietnamese consumers.
Mobile phone maker Nokia ranked second as the Finnish brand continued to win the favor of Vietnamese consumers in all market segments, from economy to premium, despite strong competition from new brand names like iPhone, Blackberry, HTC Samsung and Q mobile.
In third place was French-owned supermarket chain Big C, followed by MobiFone, Vietcombank, Saigon Co.op Mart, Viettel, Sony, Vinamilk and Coca-Cola.
Darin Williams, executive director of Nielsen Vietnam, said earlier this month that the consumer market prospects over the 10 years were very encouraging.
As the per capita income of Vietnamese people increases, they are willing to spend more on different goods and services such as health, beauty and electronic products, he said.
