Daklak raises Russian sturgeon

Vietnam Sturgeon Corp. launched the country's largest Russian sturgeon farm at a hydroelectric reservoir in Vietnam's highland province of Daklak on Tuesday.

The company invested VND5 billion in a farm that raises 20,000 Russian sturgeons in cases placed in the reservoir.

The company will sell half of the sturgeons with a weight of each between 2 kilos and 3 kilos for food after between 12 and 18 months. and keep raising the rest of the fish for five more years for egg export, according to deputy general director of Vietnam Sturgeon Corp. Nguyen Ba Phuong. One kilo of eggs is priced at about US$1,000 to $6,000.

According to the company, Russian experts have suggested that three hydropower reservoirs in Daklak Province have potential for raising sturgeon.

The group plans to open between five and 10 sturgeon farming areas in Daklak within two years, with an estimated output of 1,000 tons per year.
