Da Nang government has threatened to shut down the factory of beverage giant Coca-Cola if it is found to have violated environmental rules, according to media reports.
The city said in a recent notice sent to Coca-Cola Vietnam that it has to strictly follow regulations about protecting the environment that it has committed to, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported Thursday.
Otherwise, the company may lose its license, the government said.
Various media reports said that Da Nang has received many complaints from locals, via its hotline and its chairman’s email, saying the soft drink producer was discharging untreated waste water into the environment.
The city government has also asked the environment department and the police to monitor the company’s waste treatment activities.
