Six cinema operators in Vietnam who are suing Megastar Media Joint Venture Co. for unfair pricing have turned down their supplier's latest offer to negotiate.
Their legal representative, Duong Nguyen Y Linh, blames Megastar's "lack of goodwill" in their previous discussions and the lateness of the offer, which he described as "very rude" as it gave them no time to prepare.
Linh said Megastar had waited until Friday to invite the operators to discuss the situation with them in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday, just one working day before the proposed meeting.
For one thing, this would be inconvenient as the plaintiffs were located in Hanoi and Dong Nai Province as well as HCMC.
"They want to leave the dispute in the hands of the relevant authorities," Linh said.
The Vietnam Competition Authority decided last week to investigate the anti-trust lawsuit lodged by Galaxy Studio Company, Saigon Cinema Corporation, Cinema 212 Corporation, Dong Nai Cinema, Saigon Media and Hanoi Movies.
The investigation will focus on unfair practice and market-dominated abuse by Megastar Media Joint Venture Company against the operators which claim Megastar's conditions and prices are unfair on cinema operators and moviegoers alike.
