Disbursed foreign direct investment into Vietnam may exceed US$11 billion this year, Thoi Bao Kinh Te Viet Nam newspaper reported, citing a forecast from the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Vietnam received $11 billion of disbursed foreign direct investment in 2010, according to figures on the ministry's website.

"¢ Vietnam's State Treasury raised VND65.3 trillion ($3.1 billion) from bond sales from the start of the year to November 21, equivalent to 82 percent of the total amount the Treasury plans to raise from bond issuance this year, Thoi Bao Ngan Hang newspaper said, citing a Treasury report. The report did not provide an outright figure for planned bond sale borrowing in 2011.

"¢ Carlsberg A/S paid VND1.88 trillion ($89 million) for a 50 percent stake in Vietnam's Hue Brewery Ltd., Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Wednesday, citing the Vietnamese company. Carlsberg said in October that it increased its stake in the brewery to 100 percent from 50 percent.

"¢ Vietnam may export 820,000 tons of rubber worth $3.67 billion in 2011, according to a Vietnam Rubber Association statement posted on the government's website. Higher global demand and increased prices are cited as reasons for the increase, according to the statement. Vietnam exported 782,000 tons of rubber in 2010, according to preliminary data from the General Statistics Office.

"¢ Novo Nordisk A/S, the world's biggest insulin maker, plans an initial minimum investment of $20 million in Vietnam over the next two years and will target a 70 percent share of the local insulin market, Jesper Hoiland, senior vice president for international operations, told Bloomberg News. The company will officially open a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City on November 30, its first direct presence in Vietnam, Hoiland said.
