Aussie agri expert to promote research partnership in Vietnam

Agricultural expert Nick Austin will meet with Vietnamese officials and farmers on a four-day visit next week, which the Australian Embassy said will strengthen research partnership between the two countries.

Austin, CEO of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), will have disccussions with officials of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development and a number of directors of leading agricultural research institutes in Vietnam, according to a statement released by the embassy.

During the visit, starting Monday, he will also meet with key stakeholders involved in ACIAR's collaborative research program in Vietnam as well as farmers in the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang and Soc Trang.

Austin also serves on Australia's Agricultural Ministerial Advisory Council and is a member of the Standing Committee on Gene Technology and the National Biosecurity Committee.
