A US$56 million project to produce nanopowders, commonly used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, was launched in the central province of Quang Binh Monday.

The first plant of its kind in Vietnam will manufacture the powder, also known as calcium carbonate nanoparticles, with advanced technology and equipment from Italy.

The factory, invested in by the Linh Thanh Corporation, covers over 88 hectares in Chau Hoa commune.

It is estimated that Vietnam imports more than 75,000 tons of calcium carbonate nanoparticles every year.
