Miss Vietnam 2014 Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen smiles as Miss Vietnam 2012 Dang Thu Thao

Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, an 18-year-old college freshman, was crowned Miss Vietnam 2014 on Saturday after beating out 37 other finalists at a colorful gala held in the tourism-haven island of Phu Quoc.

The 1.73-meter tall girl with sizes 86-63-93 from the northern province of Nam Dinh was awarded a crown worth VND2.5 billion (US$120,000) and VND300 million ($14,000) in cash.

 Ky Duyen also wins the Miss Beach title of the pageant.


The finalists shine in the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) presentation round on the final night of Miss Vietnam 2014.

The first-runner up was Nguyen Tran Huyen My of Hanoi and the second runner-up was Nguyen Lam Diem Trang of the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long.

The first runner-up Nguyen Tran Huyen My, 19, gets a cash prize of VND150 million ($7,000). She is also named the Most Beautiful Girl in Evening Gown.

The second runner-up Nguyen Lam Diem Trang, 23, receives a cash prize of VND100 million ($4,700). She also wins the Miss Beautiful Face title.

The organizers, Tien Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper and Kien Giang Province People's Committee, also awarded consolidating titles such as Miss Talent, Miss Beach, Miss Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), Miss Beautiful Face, Miss Beautiful Skin, Miss Beautiful Hair, and Miss People's Choice, each with a cash prize of VND30 million ($1,400).
The pageant’s final night in Kien Giang's Phu Quoc Island with American pop star Kelly Clarkson's performance attracted an audience of more than 2,000 people, according to the organizers.

Do Thi Hue, 23, wins the Miss People's Choice title.


La Thi Kieu Anh, 21, wins the Miss Talent title.


Nguyen Thanh Tu, 19, wins the Miss Beautiful Skin title.


Nguyen Thi Ha, 20, wins the Miss Beautiful Hair title.

Nguyen Huynh Truc Mai, 19, wins the Miss Ao dai title.

Miss Vietnam is the country’s most well-known beauty contest. The biennial contest was initiated and has been held by Tien Phong since 1988. Winner of the contest will represent Vietnam at international beauty contests including Miss World.
