Local writers, cartoonists, editors and publishers participated in a seminar last week in an effort to encourage writing for young children.

The seminar, organized by Room to Read (RtR), a global non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enabling education, focused on the importance of reading in early life, and the responsibility of writers to cater to this important demographic.

RtR encouraged participants to use simple words and storytelling basics when writing for youngsters. The organization will collaborate with authors to publish children's books beginning June; applications are available till April 20.

RtR's core initiatives include establishing reading and school rooms, local language publishing and girls' education. This year, RtR will publish ten thousand copies of ten book titles in Vietnam.

The organization opened in Vietnam in 2001.
