"The Sea", an exhibition by four young Vietnamese artists, brings together different and unique perspectives on abstract landscape paintings.
To Hoai Thuc, Do Minh Hieu, Tran Phuoc Vinh and Le Huy Cuu were all painting students from the graduating class at Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts in 2002.
This exhibition is not only the reunion of 4 classmates but also "a link between four artistic spirits with the same dream," said Cuu.
Thuc's paintings feature the vibrant and windy beaches of Phan Thiet, where he was born and raised. Hieu's work represents immortality and the mysteries of the deep see in a half-abstract style.
Cuu's work is optimistic and uses minimized line and color schemes, featuring giant seas, skies and sandy beaches, symbolizing freedom, peace and generosity.
The abstract paintings by Vinh express endless desires through images of lips and streams in black and wild colors.
The exhibition will run until April 12 at the HCMC Fine Arts Association, 218A Pasteur St., District 3, HCMC.
