Vietnam's Phan Nhu Thao to take a shot at Asia's Next Top Model crown

Phan Nhu Thao, 26, is the only Vietnamese contestant in the TV reality show Asia's Next Top Model which has begun in Malaysia and will be broadcast next month.

The 1.73-meter model from Ca Mau will try to edge out 15 other hopefuls, from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand in the second season of the event. 

She is a familiar face in the Vietnamese fashion industry and modeling and beauty contests.

She was in the top 10 of the 2007 Miss Vietnam World and was in the top 5 at the 2008 Vietnam Supermodel Contest.

She is also an actress, having done roles in Ranh giá»›i trắng Ä‘en (The Black and White Boundary) and Sắc Ä‘ẹp và Danh vọng (Beauty and Fame) in Vietnam and Love in Wakatobi in Indonesia.

Asia's Next Top Model is an adaptation of the show America's Next Top Model.

This year's judges include Nadya Hutagalung, supermodel, actress, and environmental activist; Joey Mead King, runway coach, supermodel, TV presenter; Adam Williams, catwalk coach, creative director, and TV presenter; and Mike Rosenthal, photographer.

The show will be broadcast in 13 episodes on Star World channel starting January 8.

The first season was shot in Singapore and won by Thailand's Jessica Amornkuldilok.

Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, who was fourth in the 2011 Vietnam's Next Top Model, placed ninth out of 14 participants.
