Vietnam's first-ever 3D film, Bong ma hoc duong (Ghosts in the school), has set a new box office record, raking in ticket sales of VND3.5 billion (US$179,533),VnExpress reported Sunday.

It hit the screens on January 26,

The previous record was set by Giai cuu than chet (Hot kiss 2) in 2009 with ticket sales of VND2 billion ($102,590) in three days after it began screening, according to the news website.

Directed by Le Bao Trung, the 3D film was previously slammed by critics who said that a simple story about the ghost of a father following his son and discovering the cruelty of teenagers did not warrant the US$1 million 3D effects.
