Vietnam-Norway Friendship Concert to present classical masterpieces

The Vietnam-Norway Friendship Concert by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Norwegian conductor Terje Mikkelsen will take place at the Hanoi Opera House on Sep 25 and 26.


A Thursday report by the Vnexpress newswire said the performance will also feature violin soloist Bui Cong Duy.


The artists will perform Johan Svendsen's Norwegian Artists' Carnival, Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor, Op.26, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 in F-minor, Op.36, and Vietnamese musician Vu Nhat Tan's "Hanoi, Hanoi"¦ and Hanoi".


Terje Mikkelsen, 55, studied at the Norwegian State Music Academy and with Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, where he received his diploma in orchestral conducting in 1989.


From 1984 he also studied with Mariss Jansons, with whom he collaborated closely both in St. Petersburg and Oslo until 1991.


Since 1989, he has been music director as well as chief and principal guest conductors of several orchestras in Europe, including the Ukrainian State Orchestra in Kiev, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra in Riga, and the Thuringen Philharmonie Gotha-Suhl.


He has performed in France, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Thailand, Japan, Spain and Belgium.
