"Bão" (meaning "storm") by amateur Vietnamese photographer Vo Hoang Hiep

"Bao", a picture taken by amateur photographer Nguyen Hoang Hiep, has been honored by the World Photography Organization (WPO) at its annual Sony World Photography Awards.

The image is of a Vietnamese girl reading a book in the middle of a storm.

"Bao" (Storm) was honored in the "Enhanced" category of the "Open" competition, which was designated for non-professional artists.

The Open competition this year saw 46,184 entries from across 160 countries and was judged by WPO, Sony and Damien Demolder of Amateur Photographer Magazine.

The competition is designed so as to provide committed amateur photographers with the chance to have their work awarded as well as exhibited internationally, providing critical feedback on their work and the chance to be discovered.

At the award ceremony to be held in London April 25, 21-year-old Hiep will receive US$5,000.

After that, "Bao" will be exhibited at Somerset House exhibition house in London from April 26 until May 12.
