Vietnamese photographer receives more int'l awards

Award-winning photo Khoanh khac quyet dinh (decisive moment) by Lao Dong newspaper photographer Tran Viet Van

Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper photographer Tran Viet Van has won the Australian international photo contest People and Planet for his image Khoanh khac quyet dinh (decisive moment).

Khoanh khac quyet dinh, featuring monks in the southern province of Tra Vinh's Khmer pagoda Kom Pong Chray carrying a large stone, won first prize over 4,000 works from photographers from 84 countries and territories worldwide.

Early this year, the photo was awarded second prize at the UK Annual Pollux Award, the UK's Best Shot and the International Photography Awards in America.

So far in 2011, the photographer has received 16 photography awards.

Van's other works have received several prizes, including honors in the press photo category in the Editorial and Affairs section of the Worldwide Gala Photography Awards in UK, and the Paris Photography Award.
