Vietnamese coming-of-age drama "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass" has won the Young People’s Jury Award of the annual TIFF Kids International Film Festival in Toronto, organizers said.
Set in the mid 1980s in a poor village of central Vietnam, the local box office hit from the prolific director Victor Vu is a nostalgic story of two young brothers who vie for the attention and affection of a young girl.
The film, based on an award-winning and best-selling novel by Nguyen Nhat Anh, grossed over US$1 million in its first week in October. It was produced with government funding.
The TIFF Kids Festival is an annual project of the Toronto International Film Festival, a launching pad for the best of international, Hollywood and Canadian cinema.
The TIFF Kids, which is committed to involving and engaging children in the critical assessment of films, has three juries of young film lovers between 8 and 13 years old.
