Ngoi nha trong hem (House in the Alley), a made-in-Vietnam horror movie, shrugged off critics' under-enthusiasm, chalking up box office sales of over VND2.4 billion (US$120,000) on its premiere day, Valentine's Day February 14.

The movie, which details scary and abnormal things happening to a young couple after the wife loses her unborn child has made history with its premiere sales, grossing the highest gross returns of all movies screened in Vietnam previously.

Critics have commented that the film is littered from start to finish with desultory and illogical plots. Actress Ngo Thanh Van, known for her roles in action films like Dong mau anh hung (The rebel) and Bay rong (Clash) and actor Tran Bao Son have been praised for outstanding performances.

Sound and special effects have also been praised while the storyline has been described by some as incomprehensible.
