Vietnamese community in Poland crowns teen beauty queen

Local crowd favorite, Edyta Rose Krejner, 16, edged out other 14 contestants on Saturday to win the third Miss Vietnam Elegance pageant Poland has hosted for the Vietnamese community living there.

Standing 1.74 meters, Krejner also won two supporting prizes best interview and the sponsors' award.

Krejner, who also goes by her Vietnamese name, My, was born and raised in Poland by her Vietnamese father and Polish mother, but speaks fluent Vietnamese.

Krejner has studied the violin for 10 years and appeared in some films shown on local television when she was eight and 10 years-old.  

Rounding the top three were Ngo Thu Thuy and Violetta Mai Krejner, My's sister, who was awarded the prize for most talented.

The five-hour finale, which was held at the Centrum Konferencyjno-Kongresowe in the capital city of Warsaw, featured the contestants, all aged between 16 and 25, in evening gowns, self-chosen outfits and the ao dai Vietnam's traditional costume. They also competed in Q&A sessions.  

Among the judges were Le Xuan Lam, Que Viet's editor-in-chief; composer and architect Nguyen Vinh Tien; composer Duong Khac Linh; Nguyen Ngoc Thach, chair of the Vietnamese Women Association in Poland; fashion designer Tong Thu Huong; painter Loi Hong Diep and Da Ly, a Thanh Nien reporter.

Previously, the contest was also co-organized by Que Viet magazine and the TTC Company in 1999 and 2004.
