Diageo Vietnam, the subsidiary of the world's leading premium drinks company, has announced a national competition to choose a bartender to join a global contest in Brazil in July.

The winner will be entitled to take part in the "Diageo Reserve World Class 2012" to be organized July 8-12 in Rio de Janeiro. More than 50 best bartenders from around the globe will participate in the event, the company said in a press release.

Stephane Gripon, General Manager of Diageo Vietnam, said Diageo Reserve World Class 2012 is not a cocktail competition but a "training and appreciation program, designed to increase the standards of bartending and mixology worldwide with the participation of Diageo's world-class training experts and brand ambassadors."

"Given that this is the Year of Tourism in Vietnam, there is no better time to kick off Diageo Reserve World Class," Gripon said.

In June, Diageo Vietnam will bring competitors to face off across four rounds, with criteria such as speed, creativity and food pairing.

Nine hotels, including Caravelle, Sofitel Saigon, Sofitel Plaza Hanoi, Sofitel Metropole Hanoi, Hilton Opera Hanoi and Rooftop in Hanoi have been invited to join in the competition.

Launched in 2009, Diageo Reserve World Class has inspired and educated more than 10,000 bartenders using "some of the finest spirits in Diageo portfolio, among Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Ciroc and Baileys.
